Curtains for a Window Beside the Bed: Plan Access, Folds and Privacy

A window beside the bed needs more than a matching curtain color. The panels must move freely past the bedside table, close without catching on furniture and leave the window usable. Before choosing a fabric, plan the opening direction and the space needed by the folds.

Measure with the bed and table in place

Note where the headboard, bedside table and window handle sit. Check how the window opens and where an open panel would gather. A curtain that looks spacious on an empty wall may become difficult to reach once the furniture is installed. Keep the operating route practical so you do not need to lean over a lamp or pull the fabric across a sharp corner.

Choose where the open fabric will sit

A pair of panels creates a center opening, but the two sides do not always have equal wall space. A single panel may suit some layouts if it can gather on the clearer side. Neither arrangement is automatically better: compare the stack-back position, window access and visual balance in your room. Confirm with the supplier whether quoted widths refer to one panel, a pair or the total finished coverage.

Our single-panel or pair guide helps you compare the opening options. Avoid ordering from glass width alone if the rod or track extends beyond the window.

Leave room for moving folds

Allow the curtain to hang without being trapped between the bed and the wall or underneath furniture feet. Check the full movement from open to closed, including the fabric's deepest folds. If the table must stay close to the window, discuss the track position and heading before finalizing dimensions. There is no single clearance measurement that suits every fabric and installation.

Plan morning light and evening privacy

A sheer can give a gentle daytime setting, but it should not be your only assumption about nighttime privacy. If privacy or reduced morning light matters, consider a suitable outer layer and check coverage around the window. The 6109 chenille curtain is listed at approximately 95% light blocking; gaps around the installation can still admit light.

For a softer layered appearance, explore the 6101 textured sheer with an appropriate outer curtain. Compare real samples beside your bedding and wall paint under both daylight and bedside lighting.

Confirm these details before ordering

  • The window can open and its handle remains accessible.
  • The gathered panel has a clear place to sit.
  • The hem and folds stay clear of furniture and the walking route.
  • The heading works with the selected track or rod.
  • Finished drop, finished width and panel quantity are recorded separately.
